Gorilla

by Delilah Coyne

Deep, soulful pools, liquid brown
orbs of primitive innocence
and a quiet strength-
More expressive than the most eloquent poetry.
Eyes that have seen many battles,
but never war.

Black leather hands
that have grasped blood and earth
yet remain clean.
Large and powerful,
they cradle precious bundles
of raven fuzz so tenderly, lovingly.

Brave protectors,
yet playful and child-like.
Such amazing creatures.
So like us in their ways,
yet so very different.
Beautiful.
Majestic.
