Hula

by Rhonda Maneki

I'm a living song,
as life flows through me,
I'm the heart beat of the earth,
When I dance.

Non-pretentious and elegantly stated! I loved this.

These simple lines really move me. I like the first person approach. You bring movement and sound and the symbiosis between earth and you to life.

As beautiful as a delicate hula.

Yay Rhonda...I have been dancing all weekend so--this seemed like it was written for me too! I like the centering of this poem... gives a graceful balanced feel to it... as if ready for another spin!

P.S. We did have hula dancing at the Caltech Dance show... (I was bellydancing)... I took a hula workshop though, and this poem rings true in the earth expression of it...I learned how directly descriptive of natural forces and landscape the hula is!
