American Family by Tony Whitaker
Since I was born
been through it all
growing up in America
taught me
to fall
No life on your own
living for the dough
work your fingers to the bone
little time
for your own
Wives are at the bar
husbands dream at the links
kids are on their own
making double-shotted drinks
Male stars have turned to boys
Small hands and smooth skin
look at NASCAR now
and remember
way back when
Now they sell their pride
for the chance to take a ride
looking good for the masses
pushing crap
on the side
Livin in America
when the family was tight
mama cooking dinner
daddy home
every night
Now the times have changed
dinner all alone
wife at the gym
little Phil
on the phone
Daughters at baseball practice
oldest son is on the Dell
level 60 and hes king
American family
Living Hell
04/12/2007 Author's Note: Another song I wrote some time back. I remember writing it in about 15 minutes. I was just angry as hell at something I can't rememeber!

Posted by A. Paige White on 04/12/07 at 11:45 PM Well, you summed up our lifestyles pretty well in such a short amount of time. My angst with it I got out of my system in cellular cell mates, so I relate to the aggravation. Grand babies are a great cure for what ails you though. They'll sit and help you blow bubbles for hours, or laugh when you make a puppet out of a stuffed animal as long as your strength lasts. I recommend them highly to relieve the stress of the nuclear age when relationships are going to hell. Toddlers don't let it bother them any. I'm learning alot from my grandson. He's my hero! |
Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 04/13/07 at 12:16 AM love this! we are a weird little family...dad works full time, i work part time at night, so little guy isn't in day care, but we don't have a regular family dinner. but we do everything together when we can...even the gym and grocery shopping. |
