leopard moon

by Peter Humphreys

we stand
beneath
the sky
tonight
naked
as before God
the moon
flows
through
the firmament
as a leopard
touching clouds
of black
through
blue
to
white
or
silver gray
racing
as Eridanus
the river
where life
began
as an owl
calls
we fall
shivering
afright
fear filled
fear flown
we chased
the new dawn
o leopard
two soon
too soon

A hauntingly vivid stream of images.

I can see such a night with small clouds kissing the sides of the moon, brief spots come and go. Thank you!

Oh yes, the "deep-eddying Eridanus"...and the leopards...this is really quite breathtaking, Peter. Thank you.
