Got caught up in yesterday, earlier.

Remembered a conversation I had with myself
When I lived in the big city,
Alone.

About how things one day would be different,
And I’d be off someplace,
Exotic.

Got caught up in yesterday, earlier.

Thought about a daydream I had in the backseat of the minivan,
Listening to my Walkman while my whole family was talking,
Rebellious.

Memorizing mixtapes I made on cassettes while ignoring
Mesmerizing landscapes and silhouettes,
Ignorant.

Got caught up in yesterday, earlier.

Playing football in the backyard with my brothers,
Family dinners around the kitchen table and of course my Mother’s
Love.

Whispering back and forth late at night when we were supposed to be sleeping,
Laughing, farting, punching, squealing, stabbing, picking, screeching, reaching, grabbing,
Sleeping.

Got caught up in yesterday, earlier.

Drunk at the senior prom and puking all over myself,
The spiderweb in the motel room down the shore with the full case of
Beast.

First night in my college dorm all alone and the girl from Brooklyn,
The wrestler from Jersey and the bowl of
Weed.

Got caught up in yesterday, earlier.

In my cubicle doing calculations on how to price a loan,
Speaking math all day to strangers over the
Phone.

Stuck with another night of syndicated television,
Stir-fried chicken, dry conversation, and mutual
Masturbation.

Got caught up in yesterday, earlier.

Had a conversation with myself,
Swore someday I’d no longer be,
Alone.

Two years from now it will all be different,
And I’ll be back,
Home.

Cool poetics...expression. I espcially liked the ring of "full case of Beast" "bowl of Weed" and "mutual Masturbation."

You give just the amount of specifics to paint the picture and purge the feeling without the ramble. +fav
