The Sleep Doctors

by Dave Fitzgerald

Professor Denzel D. McPeep,
Expert in the world of sleep
And Dr Cecil C. DePip,
Expert too, in the world of kip.

They argue whose great knowledge knows
More facts and figures on the doze
So decide to go through the bother
Of competing to out-snooze each other.

Many thought that this was odd,
Two learned academics in the land of nod.
Both united in one long bid
To inspect under their eyelids.

Denzel settled on a bed of nails
Without a whinge and with no wails
And without such a thing as a beg or please
He drifted off with the greatest of ease.

Cecil, however, chose a washing line
And was dribbling happily in no time.
They slept so soundly in their different ways
That they snored away for a hundred days.

At exactly the same time on the hundred and first morning,
They both woke up, scratching and yawning.
So they became partners, as neither had won,
But couldn't decide which was the sleeping one.

*yawn* Well, Dave, my sinus meds combined with this poetry has done a number on me and it's not McPeep or DePip's one hundred and first.... *yawn*
Wonder if there's any coffee left in the kitchen....
