Single File

by Elizabeth Seago

Single file,
Single file.
They line up to
Tear you down.
Fidget. Smile.
Single file, now.
Single file.

You bow your head
And vow to never let it change,
As they size you up.
Fidget. Smile.
Single file,
Single file, now.

Starve yourself of
Affection,
Shut it all out,
Inhale their ether attention.
Fidget, little one.
Fidget. Smile.
Single file, now.
Single file.
Single file.

Single file ain't gonna make this any less chaotic, doll.
There's no strategy to losing yourself.
Single file don't mean you're playing by the rules.

No, they never did apply to you.

you and your heavy boy-slasher writeups seago! this is good though...i think it has a jingle tone to it almost. i could see this being a VERY catchy song that teenage girls listen to to burn their ex's' pictures to. once again, your use of repetition holds the poem together like GLUEYNESS and it jumps off the page moreso because of it. "ether attention", my fave phrase of the entire piece. attention is like drugs...feels good, but can kill you if you chase it too hard. as always, so quality young es.

Reminds me of auditions on American Idol!

this almost reminded me of the song "Dirty Laundry" I don't know if you've heard it. The Eagles (Or is it just Don Henely. Not sure).... very robotic beat (which matches your subject matter)
