a sleeping people

by Peter Humphreys

along the
wriggling
writhing
Rhine
power
stations
with
cockade hats
plume
mist
into
hollows
and
as
a
sleeping
people
sleep
before
they
attend
upon
their
duty
your
beauty
strikes
me
through
the heart
and
as
a flock
of
starlings
startle
their
wiggling
way
back
home
I
gather
you
in
my
faltering
arms
and
kiss
your
dew
drawn
cheeks

...but I'm wide awake to this, and find beauty and truth here among your words. Lovely, Peter. Thanks.

I love the power stations with cockade hats and pluming mists, that "sleeping people sleep before they attend upon their duty", and the love you are drawn to that strikes you through the heart. This one is rich and rewarding.

WOW! What lucky woman gets to hear this read to her? Peter, you've said words so many women would love to hear, with or without candlelight and starlight. Incredible!
