bare-footed

by Emily Davidson

bare-footed
he comes to the door
lets me in
squinty eyes
messy hair
sleepy face

up the stairs
we go
to his dark room
and the unstable bed
with sloppy sheets

Two lovely stanzas, the last of which has that lucky someone coming through the door and walking up stairs towards some sort of heaven, we presume?
