the Window

by Emily Tong

For how long
we have been looking for you
is anyone's guess.
But you object and
nod You could have found me
if
you really wanted to. why
have you stopped looking?
Perhaps it is
my imagination, or
the slant of the light
from the morning window.
your eyes mirror
clouds spread too thinly across
a sea of bitter salt.
Only if you wanted
to be found
could we
have ever
discovered you.
it is by no fault of our own
that you are still
lost
