so there.

by Kate Swearingen

each step has been a you-do-not-belong
a foul reminder that
i do not fit
i never have.

it’s not that i misunderstand what
you want from me
believe me, i understand.

it’s just that i refuse to
let you break me

i am too big for the box
you want to put me in
the bigger i get the smaller
you look

and I smile.

because, you’re right.
I do not belong.
I do not fit.
and I’ll try my best to
keep it that way.

Good one Kate, I can relate. "The bigger i get the smaller you look" They unconsciously help us grow, which meanwhile causes them to SHRink.

You write with a lot of inner strength, conviction, and an understanding of what gives you that strength. I like this.
