breathe, it serves the world by Jared Fladelandwhere does the breath go?
each day, i send a thousand children off to fight
the battle between molecules:
dust particles, vapors, chemicals, and, oh yes,
that whole air known as oxygen.
i regret the exhalation in every moment
because I want to hold the world in.
i am selfish enough to dream my lungs
can keep every face in small cupboards
made of pink organic tissue.
the epitome of holding on for far too long.
