Generation XXX by Kristi PaikBrad looks around his room, and outside his window, in his parents (Brian and Sarah)
two-story-four-bedroom,three-bath-two empty rooms home
overlooking the same houses over and over, the endless monopoly of their community
and wonders if this is whats for him.
the yard, the cars, the house, the job, the wife and "perfect" son
it feels so empty, so hollow, yet looks so appetizing.
Where do you go once you have achieved the American Dream?
Brad has been with Samantha all throughout high school,
and expects that everyone expects
him and her to wed
and move into their own
two-story-four-bedroom,three-bath-two empty rooms home.
its all so leave it to beaver
when all is wants
is a little adventure.
Brad looks outside the window
and for the time
feels Something
when he sees the graffiti art i scribbled for him
over his parents wall by the pool

Posted by Joan Serratelli on 02/21/07 at 01:42 PM You certainly captured the "American Dream". Great descriptive imagery of sameness and emptiness. The ending was great- hope for a different life; maybe better, but certainly not his parents. I loved the story and the message. Very well written and good food for thought. |
