Pampa's Life

by Mark Maxey

two peas in a pod
young and in love
living in a home made of sod
at night his pipe he would puff
together they placed their trust in God

my great grandparents loved us all
lived long years till I was eighteen
they had faith just like Saul
their devotion was always seen

two peas in a pod
young and in love
living in a home made of sod
at night his pipe he would puff
together they placed their trust in God

log cabin to post war homes
working hard and keeping it lean
a store clerk, judge, to making loans
he tied the ends as his first child was taught to be weened

two peas in a pod
young and in love
living in a home made of sod
at night his pipe he would puff
together they placed their trust in God

I remember in the hospital laying on his side
speaking of angels singing across the river
my mom said he was just out of him mind
but I knew he saw the Master Giver

two peas in a pod
young and in love
living in a home made of sod
at night his pipe he would puff
together they placed their trust in God

I carried her up the steps
to see her lover in the coffin
her cries and sorrow came from the depths
that would make any heart just soften

two peas in a pod
young and in love
living in a home made of sod
at night his pipe he would puff
together they placed their trust in God

Mark, this is the kind of love story that warms my heart. Your grandfather must have been a good friend to you - it shows here. One suggestion - S4, maybe delete "...taught to be..." it might make the line a bit smoother. All in all, a very emotional song. He must have known how much you appreciated him and your grandmother. I'm sure even now, he watches over you.

I'm a sucker for love stories between grandparents, because they bring back such great memories of my own. This one is no exception - I like the repeated refrain and the great love felt from your words.
