True Love Signs

by Charles M Harrison

Hearts of paper and candy kisses
rhyming cards from a store.
A box of Whitman’s Chocolate
Carnations and Roses Galore.
A satin box with ribbon and bow
a worldly treasure within
pearls, ruby’s, diamonds, garnet’s
or another precious gem.
Love signs, for ones dear
To say we care one day a year

A couple comes together
to share as one a life
its joy and it’s sorrow
the pleasure and the strife
their love for one another is
not in the words they share
it’s how they treat each other
that lets you know they care
True love signs, for one that’s dear
To say we care each day of the year

Parents by the bedside
of a new life so dear
Showing, leading, caring,
as their child grows each year
Little deeds done each day
to provide for every need
Food, drink, hugs, kisses,
faith in dreams they believe
True love signs, for little ones dear
To say we care each day of the year

The act of showing love
one person to the other
is more than just the words
we say to one another
it’s all in what we do
that show how love is done.
proven to all long ago
when God gave to us
his only beloved son
True love signs, for all God holds dear
To say he cares for eternity and a year.

Lovely title and sentiments in this poem - a reaffirmation of family, faith, and the basic kindness one would hope to share with others.
