New Oceans

by Emily Tong

here, learn Chinese, reads my fortune cookie
Miss you: Xiang-nian ni. as if that would help
waves have broken; inner peace forsook me
ripples affecting my life’s tangled kelp.

watching pacific fade into mountains
above it all, flying bird that is not free
remember the memories once again
hoping against hope that hope lives in me

atlantic stretches far into the distance
three thousand miles from home, again I see
the ocean’s tide rising, meeting the sands
all the same, but still a different sea

bid farewell, adieu to western oceans
greet, welcome, accept rising sun’s motion

Yeah, but that's when it's good to be a brilliant writer. You get as close as anyone can ever hope to get to bringing it back.
