the truest connection (?)

by Emily Tong

it's better that we're strangers, see
if we were to meet
I'm not sure you'd really know me.
you would think you did
just as I
would think i knew you.
but how true
are we
to ourselves when we reveal
the smallest greatest deepest secrets
of our hearts?

Author's Note: so. i wrote this and then i realized: it could really go
both ways: it could be sarcastic. and mean that we
really Do know each other quite well..
or it could mean that our deepest secrets are not All
that we are. we are more than that. i am more than my
deepest secret. does that make sense?
even the shallow parts of me are still parts of who i am..
and perhaps we dont' note those as much when we write,
but aren't they important too?

I'd say so. In any case, I really liked this. A great use of voice and style.
