Firefly

by Felicia Aguilar

My little firefly,
have you found a home yet?
Do you know where you are going?
You drift around
with your drumroll taps,
your rapid beats.
I listen to your song:
the pitter patter of life and light.
One day, I will find you but -
I already know you can never
be captured or bound.
You are a spirit of the wind,
merely guided by sun and moon.
You are meant to travel freely.

I am intrigued to know if this is a child in your womb or a child you are adopting or a returning-home child, so there is that mystery you have created here. I like the drumroll taps and rapid beats, the pitter patter, giving this person a unique song of living. The last two lines are a strong ending. Thank you!
