Echoes Round the Empty Vessel

by Lacy D Phillips

There it is...
raw
like sashimi.
Raw but delicious.
Unprepared.

...the need to say more
balanced by the fear
of an unreceptive ear...

...the oppressive delicacy
of risk...

...the one thing greater
in this moment
than the sick weight
of silence...

...is the un-said,
the "I need you"
you'll never hear...

...now...
The one thing I needed less
than one more failure
was another rejection.

Author's Note: Well, this isn't the sort of subject matter that I'd prefer to write about, but I had some things to get out that just refused to be blogged. When it wants to be a poem, I can't keep it from having its way. Even when it's destined to be shit. Still...it feels nice to have created something out of the destruction of promise.

Oh, what is in the air these days? This is a beautiful expression of the worst kind of pain!
