This Is How To Write a "Dear John" Letter

by Amy Wustrin

First, the greeting
"Dear John"
Because that's really your name.
(Irony isnt invited to anymore parties I'm at)

Then the body.
Five pages of love and hate
The stuff talk shows are made of,
Frantically detailing every wrong done

All the "How could you's?"
And "Why wouldnt yous'?"
That I never could speak

All the bitterness and regret
Spilled for you to savor

There's something very unfair about it
When the words you left
Became the poison in my veins,
And the only antedote is to bleed them out.

You will know everything
And I will still know nothing.
And on the off chance that you cry over me,
I wont even be there to enjoy it

Amy, so many times I've wanted to write a "Dear John" letter or even make a call with some of "the creeps I have known." Thanks for saying what I never had the courage to do.

Aack! He's not worth it! What you 'don't know' is that he never 'knew' any better. He's a creep and I don't even know him and you deserve better!
