RIP Daddy

by Sahar Rahim

Numb is the world I walk in
To my right I see my aunts sobbing
To my left I see my cousins hold each other close
And in front of me I see my sisters my daddy's bright shining stars

I hear their voices
I feel their prayers
But inside of me a part has died
A part that can never be repaired

I gather them all close
For they are all pieces of my heart
And until my mother returns
I know I have to be strong

So I shed the fewest tears
I hold it all in
I need to be their shoulder
I need to know their fears

He was the bravest man I knew
Strong, caring, and full of love
Protective, giving, kind
The most forgiving man of all

And from him I'll take these lessons
To never turn my back
To listen before judging
Then always speak my mind

My daddy was my hero
Even when we were at odds
I will always love my daddy
God will watch over him now

If there was one thing I could be granted
It would be just one last day
So I could look upon his face
And hear his voice say,

I love beta, be good
You are my heart
I'm proud of everything you are
You're my brightest star

I'd see that smile
I'd hear that laugh
I'd hold his hand
And say I love you to

Rest in peace Daddy. I love you.
