Where Eagles Dare by Tony Whitaker
scaling cliffs achieves cherished lair
the approach may determine if you try
risking all for love is where eagles dare
trusting handholds with focused care
anchor of adoration both rely
scaling cliffs achieves cherished lair
second must clean and believe in first's care
belay station holds as the pledge you apply
risking all for love is where eagles dare
obstacles in every bond so beware
avalanche of distractions buries sacred tie
scaling cliffs achieves cherished lair
clipping in trust the lead rope you share
through moraine on the climb you defy
risking all for love is where eagles dare
reaching the spur bridging as a pair
the headwall of commitment you spy
scaling cliffs achieves cherished lair
scrambling to the summit reaching clean air
aware of an old life now gone by
scaling cliffs achieves cherished lair
risking all for love is where eagles dare

| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 01/14/07 at 12:20 AM Strong use of the mountain climbing terms - a sport that just makes me cringe when I see stories about it on the tube, so it certainly speaks to me of the dangers involved and the commitment to reach the summit. The repetition of lines really keeps this focused as does the consistent rhyming. |
