Amsterdam Night Light Tour by James ZealyAdventures for young men
On an ambassador tour
Seemed unending
Our Hollander tour guide
Lead the group of us 28 strong
In full scout summer attire
Square in the middle of the seedy side of life
We browsed and window shopped
Like tourists on a shopping spree
Who could not buy
The wares were as varied as the windows
In which they sat, with red lights on
When business was ready to transact
Young as we were,
We did not understand How different this was
Clearly we were as strange to them
As they were to us
As one of a group of window wares
Ran up and pulled my red garter tab
She laughed,
I was bewildered
Uncomfortable
And unbelievabley nieve
I relish this experience
As these commodites though they were
Showed remarkable humanity and humour
While we toured on never to return 01/11/2007 Author's Note: Another adventure in this scout ambassador tour

Posted by Leonard M Hawkes on 09/12/10 at 05:33 PM I like this--been there--"wares" was my impression too; that and "I could never. . ." |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 07/14/11 at 04:53 PM Lively recanting of experience James. Yes, hard to believe we were once that innocent. I was in the Canadian Scouts, but we never went overseas, and certainly not to Amsterdam. Our local priest would have had six fits if he new we had toured the red light district. |
