High Hopes

by Maureen Glaude

In a local dollar store today, I earnestly checked the aisles' shelves for some needed figures for my nativity scene for next Christmas. I came up empty-handed, and passing the female clerk at the cash told her I'd been hoping to find three Wise Men. My search was not entirely fruitless. It provided her laugh for the day, she told me. As I was leaving she shouted out in between chuckles “Good luck, and let me know if you find any.”

A great piece of humour to start the day! Though as you're so brilliant at doing, also tinged with a certain amount of sadness. Not sure of your political persuasion, but I'd like to think there's at least one wise man these days here in Canada...on parliament hill, named Stephen Harper.
