Two Thousand Seven by A. Paige WhiteLook through this window
See the fields brown and lifeless
Winter has taken it's toll
Look through this window
Sirens screaming - someone's life has changed
a sudden urgent emergency
Look through this window
The sun shines warmly
Pull out a barb you've been stepping on
you never knew was there
Look through this window
The mail still runs
God's word still cheers us on
Children still fill creation with wondrous delight
Soldiers still caress explosives like a midnight lover
Mothers still nurse and nurture
Look through this window
There's still always a mockingbird mocking at the window you're looking through
... until many other songbirds lift their breasts and begin to sing:
Let a soon springtime of pure love flood in.
We worry not for the morrow
nor trouble ourselves in our flighty communication
Watch us preen and blink and give a wink
fluff our feathers
and still we sing
