unexpected christmas gifts

by Kyle Anne Kish

shortly before the wee
a.m. hours, i began
speaking in puzzles.

somewhere over the rainbow
sea gulls fly. if they can
live on scraps
why, oh why can’t i?

i want to be paid
top dollar as a ‘worrier’
at a fortune 500 company.

a mile happens within
an accident of home,
so put me out of my
misery and keep me far
from home ... for my own safety.

rain pelting on my skin
feels like lotion, as i gaze
outwardly at the inward
of what might be me
or could easily be someone
else posing as me without
my hat and glasses.

i painted me ugly
so everyone could see
all the jagged lines
within me, whirling
my mind through space
and time, until i spin
so out of control
that the only thing
left for me to say
is ...

help! my head’s
screwed on wrong
and i can’t think UP!

I loved this! My favorite part, "a mile happens within
an accident of home,
so put me out of my
misery and keep me far
from home ... for my own safety."
I wrote one, once upon a time, where I'm "sitting here in the rubble of a head on collision- pay me no attention- I'm just sifting through it- looking for my mind." this reminds me of it, alot. Loved it!

Reading through this one and thinking of the message within, to me it sounds like the those voices of insecurity raging their ugly heads where they have no business doing so, deep within the corridors of our minds. This time of year is when most of us take time to spend with our families, friends and loved ones. When those dark thoughts come and they do, they remind us ever so harshly how another year has passed, trying as they might to damper the otherwise wonderful times we all look forward to, but in time, they will understand they no longer have any place in our heads, hearts or elsewhere.lol... aloha..;-)
