paradox

by Emily Tong

though the world may end,
not be so that it surely will
with one or the other, ice or fire.
{neither one being appropriate or suitable for the
aforementioned purpose of the entire planet’s
inevitable destruction, I think.}
what would suit this earth, I believe,
is to implode
from gravity. gravity of Pandora’s box
after hope has butterflyed away

Author's Note: see robert frost's poem:

FIRE AND ICE
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

so.. can't really think of a title. any ideas?
