A T 4

by A. Paige White

It is the strangest thing
To have an oft remembered memory
of the shadow of a jewel like being
standing behind you
while you wrote.

It is the strangest thing
To have a civilian's version of an AT4
lying on your kitchen table

It is stranger yet
To stand at your front door and video the launching
of a "harmless" missile (all fizzle and fireworks for the kiddos)

Sigh

So this is what it will be like to have a soldier for a son in law.

I'm just really not sure about it.

I'm really sure I will attempt to keep a brave face. He does look so darn cute with that jaunty beret.

But this is starting to f r e a k me out.

I thought it was a bazooka or something. I'm so ignorant. AT4 tank something or other.

And the ring is beautiful. I kissed his cheek and told him so.

So. How shall we tame the soldier? I do adore him. He just...

He's a soldier.

Author's Note: ...sigh...

And it will just get worse when Michael gets here. He went on leave today, do the minimal parental interaction thing he can get away with, then he'll be over here, tomorrow at the latest. I can only wonder what "stupid civilian" version of some obscure (at least to me) weaponry he will insist they must assemble. Welcome Home, soldier! leave all bazooks or bazooka-like assemblies at your mamas!

Wonderful sense of humor expressed. Worriesome things like AT4s or whatever can be faced so much easier with a solid sense of humor.

"leave all bazooks or bazooka-like assemblies at your mamas!" Yes, and no harming of children, adults or small animals was made in this poem. However, a mama's concern showed through vividly, despite the humor.
