Build The Next

by J. P. Davies

Tonight we build it.

the moon snakes and spirals through my window
twisting the blankets into ticker tape.
the stars, the very ground swells of memory
fade to black, and drift across your face

Tonight we build it.

blink twice, and breathe once for me
this desperate attempt to recall you
is dripping from my hands, liquid glass
reflections of the past, written here.

Tonight we build it.

in the act break down each other
and build up another in the space
dreaming ever so fluidly, what may
replaced with here and now.

Tonight we build it.

but we remember.

Sometimes "what ifs" are better to ignore, but in this case glad you didn't completely.
