Hanging Light on a tree

by A. Paige White

We hang our lights on the tree;
multicolor lights this year seem especially appropriate
As I light the candles of remembrance

-the first time I've ever done this-

I pray to the light of the world
that was hung on a tree
for me

And I thank Him.

I thank Him for all the many ways He lights the path ahead of me
and lights the spot where my next step will fall
I thank Him.

I thank him for teaching me the history of a people chosen
to bless the entire world
and a faithful few that revolted against a hostile great world power at that time
to restore the basics of their relationship with their creator
according to His own exact instructions
to His people Israel.

-the first time I've ever studied this-

the Maccabees and the candle with only enough oil to last for one day
yet it lasted eight days... until fresh oil arrived
and I thank Him.

I sense the new oil of annointing is arriving,
the vessel already tilted and beginning to flow,
that hovers over this particular season of joyful celebration

-the first time I've ever sensed this-

and I yearn.
And I thank Him.

Two thousand and seven
holds a greater taste of heaven
than I've ever tasted before

May His people Israel come to know their Messiah,
in all the fullness He yearns to reveal
and I thank Him.
I thank Him for them.

Author's Note: May every candle (for the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord) glow brighter than ever before in this season of renewal.
