Sand Castles

by Alisa Js

What if I told you I knew
Everything you said about me and more,
What if I told you I could feel everything
That I've always known
Would you still think of me in the same way? ...

Would you dare look at me with that smugness
Attempting that coy little smile,
What if I told you it doesn't matter
Doesn't change the direction of my affection

Why did you speak only words to my heart?
Feeling good for that moment,
Seemed like the right thing to say
To you, anyhow
But right along side
There in the shadows
Just beyond that certain scope
Of this dimension you see,
A secret you kept
Out of the lime light
So carefully guarded,
Until now ...

Isn't it crazy how some choose to confuse others
Thinking
No way could this ever be found out,
Not realizing the strain of that shadow
Pressing against all that is false,
Whispering just out of earshot
Blaring
Into the midnight madness
The message you thought was hidden,
But not!
Insidious toxins bleed through the spirit
Of that one
With sand castles for morals ...

Text aptly reflects title. I think as we go through life, we all have to build a few of this type of sand castle before finding the right materials to make relationships that will last must longer...possibly even eternity.
