Hello Sylvia, We Are Lost

by Shannon Adele

Because you said it would be sunshine
it’s nothing but rain, even though
your grandmother said mittens
and we decided on lemons.

The fact of the matter is, Sylvia
we are lost.

Let’s take to the ocean Sylvia.
Let’s take to the ocean and swim
underwater inhaling and exhaling
through animal bladders. You’re going to find rocks
and mistake them for pearls, Sylvia.
And we will laugh and laugh and smile.
Sylvia,

you’re in the desert now
kicking. Kissing cactus now,
Sylvia. Evaporating with the rain
and rising with the steam from those hot
hot rocks. We sit and squirm all day
and when night, we’re pulling tails
off of lizards under that diamond dress.

I’m awake now Sylvia, I’m awake
now with your lemons.
On my mouth and in my skin, you’re so sweet
and burning Sylvia, you’re so sweet
and burning like the sun in our tiny
tiny milky way.

Shannon, I saw this in the apps and fell in love with it. So you love Plath, too? Welcome to pathetic. Write more please?

with a Sylvia such as yours, who can help but fall deep and mad in love with love.
