Lunch Hour by Richard VinceThe grass is still green, but
It is bland without the bright
Summer clothes of people
Enjoying the warmth of
A summer lunch break.
Leisurely strolls to acquire
Salads or sandwiches have
Given way to furtive dashes
For paninis before returning
To the warm havens
Of their offices.
For some, it will soon be
The only weekday daylight
They experience, so they brave
The biting cold to avoid
Five daysÂ’ exile in darkness.
I find winter clothes
Enchanting; glowing faces
Glimpsed between hats
And scarves contain
A special magic that is
Found nowhere else.
This is my fairytale vision
Of winter. Not the perfectly
White snow and yellow
House lights of a
Christmas card scene, but
The warmth of winter clothing
Against the cold of winter days.

Posted by Amy Niggel on 12/05/06 at 10:44 PM We had our first real snowfall this week so I've had to pull out my scarf and hat and gloves. I'm glad that all this garb can entrance. Thanks for this view on the frigid winter months :) |
