i wanted to

by Kristi Paik

hands feeling you sticky
like the grass
before dawn came

i loved you then
wanted to
in that darkened field
i felt at home

the spirit of the water came
it beckoned us
wanted to
experience our energies
physicality
and form

animal sensations
rose to combat freedom
but we let go
under that moon
the brightest stars

that earth
which made us within itself
cradled us
and wind sung
wanted to
bring us together
before we must part

it all ended in the daylight
we are different now
selfish and arrogant
our true selves
perhaps

or were we then?

Good question. Some really great lines here.
