ARCHERY by Steven Kenworthyway over speed limit reckless dancing on tops of buildings
a skyline dinner party
skytime after
sips from umbrellas i drink to you and only you
we would be for this high wiring this project, handles
holding bridges together with extended arms
outstretched this is exactly how far i stretch
elasticity, adoration & growing oceans,
if we fell beneath them you might speak you might
swim
former swimmer you should put the arm before the torso and breathe out
the side you drive with legs you need you sing the water
shakes
the sharks will escape be swift
magicianista,
saw the water in half.
between sweeps you,
say love is for you
its hopeless love its never the pivotal view, perspective
securely
im practicing the keyboard all night to play something pretty in streams
i miss you safe jump in climb
the ladder
the stairless case im making in the court we sometimes
argue. you keep me. good paper thin &
you are my sea sharp the pretty sweepstakes
i win now
lets sail i have, deck, mast, stars aboard too much quiet
periscope finally fixed
telescopes smart and ready for me to see things as far away as
the battleships will leave us alone im through with
warfare
islands are eying us and retinas and corneas
yours nets webs & spiders
catching captivate take another chance
please dance
more in the wind and the moon and just please
arent we
under the gun behind the cannons & powder fight for you
blast back thoughts in spines these hulls
small wooden floating ideas that there could be better
than this
nothing is better
than this
these wrinkled ships show for something we are
unsinkable sensational, short on nothing
not that tall,
best friends.
the difference between hidden in plain view and me and you
maybe one wave a little storm
some salt water on the deck
disruptive sway if tomorrow is not today then i will wait
take a break
catch arrows the archers have fire measuring feet apart
protected in this
house built on personality bricks music boards
and the cassettes that never pay attention when all i want to do
is capture your voice
aiming high in big wind, we will swing low and stay behind branches
& if you hit your head you can fall into my arms i
dont see a thing to stop us. not a glacier, not 6 months,
some snow.

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 12/01/06 at 01:55 AM Hi Steven. Your unique style contiunes to immerse your readers into the poem. I feel lost and found of many feelings at once. Like all your work, this is vivid; fresh with new ideas. Thanks. |
Posted by Leslie Ann Eisenberg on 12/02/06 at 01:45 AM archery? from cupid, perhaps?....too many good lines and phrases to quote, lovelovelove the style, as always. as for the content, same approach, but more cohesive, somehow....and, quite a departure from your usual message. for one thing, the character is quite sure of himself, and how he feels. there is no hesitation. he wants this girl and is making quite a show of it, while still maintaining a high level of patience and understanding. this makes me think of dreams, and what they mean, because you have written a lot about driving, and airplanes, and magic...i won't go into it here, you can always look that stuff up....but, i do see a preponderance of water imagery here, which, for one thing, represents serenity. there is a calmness here that i really adore. now, yes, there is the occasional storm, but a real relationship has them, or else it's all pretend. also, the big ships show security!....6 months, and snow, makes me think that when spring comes, chachacha, baby it's going to be good!....overall, a very satisfactory read. Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 12/05/06 at 04:16 PM I never know what to expect in your mind stream, but I have to read! You take me from the top of buildings to periscope level - quite an amazing ride. My favorite lines - "magicianista - saw the water in half" Love it, love it, love it... |
