oil and water by Kyle Anne Kishwading through oil
spills
weeks on end
peeking through
rainbows with
black backgrounds.
how do i survive
that which feeds my
chain of restraints
days, weeks,
sometimes months
piled upon one
another?
smile
for the camera,
smile
smile
smile
until my jaw
aches
like a tooth
after pulling
my leg(s)
right out
from under me.
i melt
into myself
and when
unshed tears
form with
puddle-less
ease around
my feet
the sun
peeks
back through
cotton candy
clouds
so i can
smile
smile
smile
for the camera. 11/21/2006 Posted on 11/21/2006 Copyright © 2024 Kyle Anne Kish

Posted by Emily Tong on 11/21/06 at 06:26 PM wow. it had to read this several times, but i feel like i still only got the jyst of it. i really loved your repition, and the short, almost rythmic lines- they made me focus more on the importance of each word. i also liked the idea of "rainbows with black backgrounds" |
Posted by Alicia Vann on 11/22/06 at 02:39 AM You're ability to take a simple situation and portray the raw truth underneath has always impressed me. I've been away for a while and I haven't been writing but it's good to know there is a familiar voice still speaking truth. Thank you. |
