when all you fear is fear itself

by Christel Crews

i'm not the one to step out
on a limb
when the heart is on the stake

i will take myself out of this
equation before
it even crosses your mind

my only fear is a life
alone and yet
i will push you away

so please do not chase me
when i run
unless you see past the facade

and just tell me now
are you
what i'm looking for

or just another broken heart
around the bend

Author's Note: i haven't posted in a while so please be gentle.. if its horrible, i apologize and will do better next time

I like the way you play with "sayings" like "out on a limb" and "on a stake" instead of "at stake". I like the equation idea and the crosses (like x's= the unknown in the equation). The unknown-- where fear comes from... and also happiness (around the bend)?

Sweet mystery....maybe! Enjoyed this, Christel!

Oh, I understand this so well. No need for apology, Christel, you have written a piece that exposes a vulnerability I'm sure many of us have. It's beautiful.

Wonderful expression of the fear of intimacy!

Fear is a strong emotion and you express it very well with your writing. In facing our own fear and knowing how it motivates us we can see how it effects our relationships with others...very well written. smh
