Shout back rain by Shirin SwiftShout back rain that talks so fresh
like a roomful of women,
talk low under their breath,
shelling pistachios and cracking their knees
shout back rain that talks so fresh
like a poncho with beads of needles and death
a squint black jug a rankled red chin
back away rain that talks so fresh
rain coats need to acclimatize
to clicks & clacks & cloud-drab skies
like a granny in the corner serenading the night
shove off rain that talks all night 11/10/2006 Posted on 11/10/2006 Copyright © 2024 Shirin Swift

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 11/11/06 at 12:05 AM I like this a lot! "shelling pistachios and cracking their knees" - terrific images describing rain. Heck, I love every line in this! Very creative - almost an old time feel to the rhythm and wording. |
