Jake's Piece by Quinlan L GibsonI had to ask, though I already knew.
There never could be two of you.
I had to ask, was it you that had passed?
Was it you I'd just remembered so clearly?
Was it you I'd just wept for in memory?
I had to ask, though I already knew.
There never could be two of you.
11/09/2006 Author's Note: Anthony Jacob Villanueva was a man I dated back in 1993 or 1994. He was one of my favorites.I just learned he met an untimely death in 2002. All those years and I suddenly remembered every detail of him I ever knew. Thanks jon jon.
RIP Jake.
(title changed a day later from "was it you?". This one feels right.)

Posted by Jared Fladeland on 11/11/06 at 05:56 PM This piece has a very surreal quality. As if you were staring both at the man, and the reflection in a pond of water. I don't know why. There are just little words here and there that remind me of a reflection in water. And that's all your left with. the reflection of a person. |
