When it comes, Winter bears unexpected gifts

by Lacy D Phillips

The slow freeze of Winter
approaches penitently,
asks permission before
hitting the dimmer switch
on my multitudinous moods
and ambient temperatures.

Guilty for prolonging my thaw,
if offers up the consolation
of a thin sheet of ice
on which I slip
and fall.

Author's Note: Three cheers for whoever guesses the name of the gift.

Hmmm. I'll get back to you on that. Great work, as it stands.
