the scene

by Maria Francesca

sighing and dying
a glance at a time -
her heart beats the rhythm
his hands write the rhyme

her promise is given
his love is professed
while kissing picassos across her breast

and the scene is so perfect
so sweet and romantic
their souls intertwined
and their bodies so frantic;

I'd wish them both blissful
and peaceful and free
if my best friend's new lover
weren't married to me.

Yikes--what poetic restraint and refined perspective... amazing you can be funny and give comic-drama its due, even here.
