l'eau

by Peter Hsu

bitten, I entered
vague of eye, breathing a tail’s end
finding your teachings in glass
leaving me in the position of a knife
unsure of who to skin
vehement intent pared thin

in my life
a clot has feasted
spitting sorely at your name
when I spied you clearly
a fury saw its cage

in my life
a clot has feasted
spitting sorely at your name
when I spied you clearly
a fury saw its cage
in my life

lacerated, we left
bereft of skin, callus-tongued
ignorant of some devil
dead hobble step is what I dance
since then I never touch
flies live in my clutch

in my life
a clot has feasted
spitting sorely at your name
when I spied you clearly
a fury saw its cage

in my life
a clot has feasted
spitting sorely at your name
when I spied you clearly
a fury saw its cage
in my life

I just love the whole overlapping rhythm and repetition of this. It resounds well and to good effect in the poetic ear.
