7am, his bed

by Emily Davidson

the sun is waltzing
through the open window

it is 7am

there is a choir
of birds
harmonizing joyously
in the october trees

the two of us
one awake, one resting peacefully,
stomach to stomach
in his bed,
his face placed gently
on my chest
our feet touching at the toes

together we breathe
the autumn air,
pull the blankets over us,
and sleep a few more hours
