Must I Always Watch?

by Darren Swift

There was a time when I rippled your lands,
made the bedrock flow, defined continents.
I sit far away now, yet near enough to see;
to watch your follies, futilities, failures
as you struggle/strive to reach beyond me.

My pity has been endless as I've faced you;
my single eternal visage forced to endure
through millenia of tragedy. Earthquakes,
eruptions, tsunami, hurricanes, all noticed.
Not now, my tears cannot fall for you now.

Did you think I would not notice your actions?
Your murderous intentions against one another
in the name of the hidden ones heavened behind?
Ass jaw bones, sharpened sticks, steeled swords,
rifled barrels, poisoned gas, mushroomed clouds.

There was a time when I would like to return,
become one with the mother as when we started.
I wish for that no more, I shall merely watch
as the mother wipes clean her slate, starts anew,
not long now - your struggle/strife will end.

If he could speak this is most likely what he would say....

I had to read this several times, since I was so fascinated with it. And in doing so, I felt a conglomeration of emotions - sadness, mostly, that life has come to this kind of turn.

Moving, thought provoking piece. I especially like this ring of this line: in the name of the hidden ones heavened behind?

I've often said I'd be glad to give up my life to purge this world of human kind...maybe give the chickens a shot at it - Nicely done James! - RCat

So sad what the human race has done in its clamor/struggle for survival and in its greed and hate. You've captured much of it here very well and indeed a perspective of an omnipotent being which can be a real possibility. Well done.
