sun worship

by George Hoerner

the sun slowly
almost carefully
begins to peek
over the horizon

then suddenly
seeing you
it bursts forth
brightly smiling

as if initially
it feared you
would be gone

now fully aware
of your presence
it throws its warmth
around you

all day it is there
protecting you
following you
hour after hour

then, just as
it approaches
the other horizon
the sun looks back and

with one magnificent
burst of color
it showers you
with love

the twilight
turns darker ¯ threatening
but in one quite gesture
the sun kisses
his sister moon saying
watch over her
while i sleep

call all my cousins
in the milky way
to add their
tenderness to the night
and i will
rise in the morning

This is beautiful! While reading it, I could picture the illustrations in a children's book. A pretty way to explain why the sun rises & sets.

George, welcome back to Pathetic! Glad to "see" you again. I like the way you personalize the sun, stars, and moon. I feel the same way.

such softness, full of loving & caring. A most wonderful read that makes one smile and feel secure in the knowing that life's good.
