autumn's cold shoulder

by Charlie Morgan

autumn leaned her cold shoulder
on me in the wee hours this morning;
crying that she'll have to disappear
at dawn
when the sun glares.

i saw time slinking away, hiding itself
in smiles from babies, warm hugs,
hot coffee, and poetics.
slinking, like
it was done with me.

I like the personification of Autumn here, to see her this way is just so on the money. Brought to mind a Mucha litho I love.

Loved this! She leaned on me around 3:00 this a.m.... and whispered through the open window "snuggle your comforter!" and so i did. Thanks.

I agree with Maria, love the idea of autumn being a person. Great write Charlie, love the style

Great use of personification. Sense the reluctant acceptance of the changing of the season in the "slinking" expression. I thoroughly enjoy autumn myself.

I could feel fall in the wee hours of the morning as well and then it did heat up here. Soon perhaps she will stay for awhile. Love this...made me smile.

Too bad the site doesn't have the featured poet anymore, you'd make a great one. Your poetry is so varied and interesting. As the others have noted, your personification of autumn is terrific. I love SoCal, but miss the change of seasons. Thanks for the reminder.
