"Contact"

by Max Phineas

Never has it been so
I can't breathe when
You come around
(Normally, a voice has little impact on my lungs).

Never was like this,
Where I can't speak-
As strange as it sounds
("It's on the tip of my tongue!")

You are neither eloquent nor elegant
Neither poised nor proper.

But, by God
You make my heart
Erupt in laughter
When you crack a joke.

And me?
I just choke
On every poetic verse
That tries to escape my lips.

I touched your hand-
-An accident, I swear!
Not that you'd care.
But it was the best I could expect.

I gaze into you,
My being begs to be broken
And our silent conversation-
The best words ever spoken.

'And our silent conversation-
The best words ever spoken."
Yes, our vibrations speak more loudly in silence in these moments. They 'communicate'wordless.

Wow I love this! It's so heartfelt and has a great rhythm! It's one of my favorites!

Very nice, Cole. Being a shy person, I can relate to this poem quite well. I love the line: "Normally, a voice has little impact on my lungs." Great image.

This brings me back to the vaccuum of time on impact with the special ones in life....nicely done.

Oh, I remember a guy I had been ga-ga over. Nope, I couldn't speak around him ... except in broken lines and bleak sentences. Whatever rolled off his tongue made me leap with pleasure. Then I'd go home and we'd have these absolutely wonderful conversations in my head. Ahhh. Creatively, wonderful poem, Cole.

Cole, this brings back memories of jr. high and high school days where there were guys I liked and just couldn't express my feelings. The way you write this is so natural, I can feel your heart beating and hear your breath quickening. Wonderful. ;-)
