La Danse Macabre

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

Last night I performed in fright
old skeletons came back to life
dragging me to dramatize
a pastiche that I despise

memory's curtain
begins to rise
reenacting the first scene
on nightmares stage
my darkest dream

long forgotten were my lines
some words missed
were never mine
spun again thru time
cold cruel coryphee
he never stays away

act one act two
past crimes
a manuscript of darkest
mind

a haunting rhythm
of mistakes
beastly burlesque
too loudly played
debase line shakes
vile vibrations
reverberate
old
harmonies of pain

each act played
in collaboration
he creates
my darkest rumination
