Canopy by Maria Terezia Ferenczfor years I discarded
seeds of my smiles
small secret parts
in soil of life's trials
Piled them all
far from my view
fertile tho small
they never grew
seeded all fall
untended to
years passed by
this pile it grew
incredibly high
blackening my view
never to spring
left without care
until they were moved
while I was unaware
to newly tilled soil
rich with love
forced a growth
vines burst forth
traveling wild
these seeds once forgotten
now had full reign
frail seeds of smiles
burst forth in flower
trellising the trials
canopying my pain 09/07/2006
Author's Note: Long rotted pumpkins from all my Halloweens past seeded and grew for no reason this year, and yielded fruit...
A living reminder of how my soul seems to be growing as well.

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 09/08/06 at 02:06 AM My POTD! I love the earthiness of this, the passage of time, the growth both of plant and human, and the "seeds of my smiles" is a brilliant line!! |
Posted by Rusty C Arquette on 09/11/06 at 09:14 PM I love poetry that juxtaposes we humans and our inner beings with the world around us. Your images are right on the mark; makes me wish I was a big ol' orange pumpkin destined for a pie or maybe a Jack o' Lantern on somebodies front step! - Well done - RCat |
