why some must catch rainbows

by Steven Kenworthy

stealing books from the store from tomorrow,

my healthy infatuation sneaks volumes
through trees, woods i can see the cherry tree
the girl who burns for jupiter, dark eyes

height changes hugs
feeling tall, above the storm next to her,
we will take turns catching jets & planes.

slightly turbulent,
if i were more like me iÂ’d shake more
pretending to not be able to handle a moment
with you that i know i might not deserve. tonight
my head plays and spins regularly.
freeze tag, please stay like that i love your face.
run fast too & be childish like me
weÂ’re laughing ourselves back to good health.

autumn falling over into she never leaves or off of buildings
a chance is a leap a risk is, us I think
electricityÂ’s big gift to my palm is power lines
frustration is hearing not touching you to sleep, i
I, will not rush into a decision without
tracing our fingers to a rainbowÂ’s gold & dreams.

my plans to fly high are happening
delivering i feel bright.

i am not in outerspace just yet,
yet satellite photographs would say
we look very nice & obsessed

& i really like that.

you and everyone else with veins has to slip on sidewalks to stand again
we find out new ways to wear band-aids
so many bruises become so many stories
so i hit the pavement hard to remember a concussion that stole senses
i canÂ’t smell you or taste you right now but,
i can see and feel every second of you in our ridiculously fancy bed
weÂ’ll be barely able to afford in the future.

i have always loved you and i think we have a chance.
we will make out,
throw food at each other
wash each other's hair
count take-offs & landings

"frustration is hearing not touching you to sleep" --~~-- loved this line! How many nights I've heard too far to touch--~~--"we find out new ways to wear band-aids" OUCH! SO TRUE!++~~++ "we will make out, throw food at each other wash each other’s hair count take-offs & landings" ++~~++ to hum to an ole ditty... "these are a few of my favorite things..." Really enjoyed this!

Hi Steven, What an unusall and wild daydreams and nightmare. Good one. :)

i find myself hoping for a plane reference in every one of your poems, and i was happily satisfied here. man, i so dig your style. this line blows me away--- if i were more like me -- coolest line ever!! and, there were many others. we find out new ways to wear band-aids so many bruises become so many stories, just to name one, and the closing stanza is sweetsweetsweet. in every poem, it is as if there is a struggle between two selves. a childlike self, and another self struggling to be something more. and, yet, that child is brilliant in his unfiltered world. interesting conflict, or at the very least, juxtaposition of conflicting brain waves... another awesome epic, sk!! oooh i dig this ;] especially the last stanza everything is so random but somehow you make it all come together and make beautiful, crazy, chaotic sense
